Simple Woman's Day Book - Week 9

So, I've kind of forgotten about this. Let's try it again...

Outside my window... It's beautiful! It has been rainy for the last week or so, now everything is wonderfully green!

I am thinking... That carpets were the worst idea ever.

I am thankful for... My dishwasher.

I am wearing... Pj pants and black t-shirt. OMG, exact same outfit as last time I posted this!

I am remembering... How much I love age 2. Seriously. I find 3.5+ to be much harder. 2 is just cute and fun. I loved Judith's age 2, and Gideon's is proving to be fun too! Ah, the cuteness! Even the tantrums are cute.

I am going... To enjoy visiting with my Mom and Grandma this week!

I am currently reading... A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller.

I am hoping... That this week is nice so we can go and do some fun things.

On my mind... How pointless it is trying to get the house in perfect shape, and how dirty our carpets still look despite being shampooed.

Noticing that... Ruthie is growing up way too quickly. In my head she's still 2-3 months, so I'm always amazed at how good she is with her hands and stuff. Then I realize, oh yeah, she's almost 6 months. 6 MONTHS?!?!

Pondering these words... "People who live good stories are too busy to write about them." ~Donald Miller

From the kitchen... Cleanliness. Sweet, sweet, temporary cleanliness.

Around the house... A disaster waiting to un-happen.

One of my favorite things... Snuggling with Ruthie at night as she plays with my hair.

From my picture journal... How cute is this?

Camping!

We went camping this past weekend and it was so much fun! I can see us doing a lot more in the future. The kids loved it. And I got a much-needed nature fix.

Our campsite (our cousins came with their trailer, we stayed in the tent).

The view.

Gideon enjoyed finally having lots of space to walk around without me always bugging him about being careful and not getting hit by cars and other such silliness.

So much spaaaaaaaaaace, it was awesome!

Biking!

Gideon watched us all brush our teeth over in this spot, so when I gave him his toothbrush (it's more like a chew toy that cleans his teeth), he went right over there all on his own, to the "spot". It was so cute. I hope he didn't sit in a bunch of our spit...

I love the sky out here!

We went hiking and the forest was SO beautiful!

Gideon enjoyed the hike, it must have been soothing. He always seems to fall asleep in the mei tai.

Judith was brave and ventured into the ice-cold creek.

It was so wonderful there.

Family pic!

Ready to go!

Judith LOVED all of the attention from our cousins!

My favourite pic from the weekend.

Gideon loved all of the plants, trees, bugs and flowers. He is a nature boy for sure!

He LOVED exploring!

Judith loved getting dirty.

Gideon also loved the junk food...

Glow bracelets!

Watching cartoons in the trailer in the morning. Yeah, we were totally roughing it, haha.

Breakfast!

Gideon thinks that breakfast tastes better with a little dirt mixed in.

We had a great weekend with our cousins!

Sorry for so many photos, we just had such a great time!

We've been mei tai'n it up around here!

Gideon is really enjoying it. He thinks now I just really have no excuse to ever set him down...

Breakthrough Discovery!

Look! A genuine mountain man in his natural habitat. It has been recently discovered that mountain men often wear their young. After extensive observation, it is believed that this practice serves a dual purpose. It is partly to relieve his mate, and allow her to chase after older children, while also hauling precious sustenance in the form of hot chocolate and cookies. It also causes the female to continue to be exceedingly attracted to him, thus ensuring the continual production of offspring. This is a fascinating discovery, that is sure to impact other species of men as they realize the immense benefits of the practice.

Babywearing in 1963

Here is a clip from May 10, 1963 from the CBC (Canadian) show Telescope, on the topic of "Baby Toting". It's really interesting!

http://archives.cbc.ca/lifestyle/homemaking/clips/15185/

We are a babywearing family. Here we are in Sydney, Australia, when Judith was almost 3 months old. We currently have this pouch sling, as well as 2 ring slings (one for me that has flowers on it, and one for Dave with a more 'manly' print, complete with skulls, lol), a Snugli, and a mei tei. I also have material to make a wrap, but I haven't had time to experiment with that yet.
